About Mrs. Kentopp
Greetings! I am thrilled and honored to begin my second year as Spicewood's School Counselor. I am originally from Chicago, graduating summa cum laude from DePaul University before moving to Austin in 2010 to begin my teaching career. I taught Special Education for six years in Round Rock ISD. In 2017, I graduated summa cum laude from Texas State University's Professional Counseling Program with an M.A. in Professional Counseling. I am a Certified School Counselor (CSC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).
I have a passion for making kids feel safe, welcome, and included in the school community. I incorporate a neurobiological approach with a child-centered, strengths-based counseling orientation; working through guidance lessons, small groups, and individual counseling to build esteem, empathy, emotional regulation, and flexibility in our students. This will be my eighth year working in an IB school, and love to incorporate the IB Learner Profile Attributes and Approaches to Learning into my counseling curriculum, as well as work in each grade level's Unit of Inquiry.
I live with my husband, Richard, and two energetic toddlers, Leon (2) and Ellis (4). I love music, cooking (and eating food someone else prepares for me), gardening, and getting outdoors. I believe children deserve our full attention and respect, and I strive to create a space where students feel heard, accepted, and valued. I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year!
